The road to Super Bowl LVIII begins now, and Ohio sportsbooks have already listed odds for next year’s Super Bowl champion.

The Cincinnati Bengals, fresh off a second-consecutive AFC Championship Game appearance, are tied for the fourth-shortest odds at +900 to win the title at DraftKings Sportsbook.

The team’s neighbors to the north, the Cleveland Browns, are in the middle of the pack, tied with two other teams for the 16th-best odds at +4000.

Sports betting in Ohio just went live on Jan. 1. Here’s a look at what these AFC North rivals will need to overcome in order to hoist the Lombardi Trophy in 2024.

Bengals must overcome Chiefs to make Super Bowl LVIII

After defeating Kansas City last year en route to a Super Bowl LVI appearance, the Cincinnati Bengals went into the 2023 AFC Championship Game riding a three-game winning streak over their newfound rivals.

But Joe Burrow & Co. fell just short, and Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs finished off their second Super Bowl title in five seasons. Kansas City has played in the AFC title game in all five years Mahomes has been the starter.

It’s safe to say the AFC championship will have to go through Mahomes at some point. Thus, the Chiefs open as the Super Bowl favorites at +600 at DraftKings Sportsbook Ohio.

The Bengals also have the Buffalo Bills to contend with, and the betting market has Buffalo with the second-shortest odds to win it all at +700.

2024 Super Bowl LVIII favorites:

  • Kansas City Chiefs +600
  • Buffalo Bills +700
  • San Francisco 49ers +800
  • Cincinnati Bengals +900
  • Philadelphia Eagles +900

Browns open at +4000 to win the 2024 Super Bowl at DraftKings

The Cleveland Browns have some work to do in order to join the Chiefs, Bengals and Bills as legitimate AFC contenders.

The Browns were unable to force their way into the playoff picture this season even after quarterback Deshaun Watson returned from an 11-game suspension. Cleveland lost five of its final seven games, finishing 7-10 and last in the AFC North.

The Browns’ front office will need to be get creative in order to enhance a fairly talented roster. The Watson trade cost the team its first-round picks in 2022, 2023 and 2024, plus a 2023 third-round pick and a 2024 fourth-round pick.

Still, the Browns will enter the 2024 NFL season knowing that at least the Pittsburgh Steelers have longer odds among AFC North rivals to win the Super Bowl at +550.

The Baltimore Ravens enter the offseason at +2200 to win the Super Bowl, tied for seventh-shortest odds with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Cincinnati Bengals were a popular bet during the NFL playoffs

Although the Browns were out of the playoff picture by the time Ohio sports betting launched on Jan. 1, the Bengals’ deep playoff run kept Ohio bettors engaged.

The Bengals were the most-bet team in the NFL Wild Card Round at BetMGM Sportsbook, leading bettors to be heavy on the team in the futures market heading into the Divisional matchup with Buffalo.

The team’s big win over the Bills attracted even more bettors to the Bengals’ Super Bowl futures bets. Then bettors gravitated to the Bengals’ moneyline and Ja’Marr Chase prop bets for the AFC Championship.

Ohio sports betting market showed its strength early in 2023

Already expected to be a massive sports betting market, Ohio’s launch weekend produced more geolocated transactions than any other state in the nation, including New York.

The numbers were just as impressive for the month of January, as approximately 2.25 million Ohio sports betting player accounts were identified during the first month of legal sports betting in the state.

Even with the Bengals eliminated, Ohio led the U.S. in unique sportsbook accounts betting on the Super Bowl, and it ranked second in geolocation checks behind New York.

According to PlayOhio projections, Ohio will rank among the biggest sports betting markets in the U.S. as soon as 2023.
