New Ohio Sportsbooks And Sports Betting Sites

The excitement is growing as new Ohio online sports betting apps continue to launch, adding further to the many legal sports betting options in the Buckeye State.

There are already well over a dozen online sportsbooks up and running in Ohio, with Fanatics Sportsbook the most recent to go live.

Several more Ohio online sportsbooks are expected to arrive soon, which will push the total number up over 20. In all, Ohio’s sports betting law allows for as many as 46 online sports betting sites. Meanwhile, 14 retail sportsbooks are already up and running with another eight conditionally approved, with up to 40 retail sportsbooks ultimately allowed. Add to that more than 900 approved locations for sports betting kiosks, and there will be no shortage of new betting sites in Ohio for those who want to wager on sports.

Here is an overview of the latest additions to the Ohio sports betting landscape including what to expect over the coming months.

What is the newest online sportsbook in Ohio?

The first new online sportsbooks in Ohio launched on Jan. 1, 2023, the same day the state’s first retail sportsbooks launched. That made for a suddenly full menu of sports betting options for Ohio, although there remains plenty of room for more brands to launch.

As noted, the newest online sportsbook to launch in Ohio is Fanatics Sportsbook.

Fanatics partnered with the Columbus Blue Jackets NHL team for both retail and online sports betting and has also partnered with the MLB’s Cleveland Guardians for retail. A beta version of the online Fanatics sportsbook first launched in late April 2023, and in May the app was opened to a select group of users via invite.

Fanatics was among a latter group of operators receiving regulatory approval, but they weren’t ready to join the group of sites that went live on New Year’s Day 2023. Also part of that latter group of sites receiving approval were Betr, BetPARX, and MVGBet (Betly) which also missed the Jan. 1 launch but have since gone live.

New sportsbooks coming soon to Ohio

Within the first six months of legal sports betting in Ohio, no less than 18 online sportsbooks have launched. We expect these four to join the fun soon as their sites and app go live.

Bally Bet Sportsbook Ohio

Bally Bet Sportsbook has partnered with the NFL’s Cleveland Browns to launch its online sportsbook in Ohio.

Bally Bet had been operating in six states until recently when the site initiated a temporary shutdown in most of them in order to shift to a new sports betting platform operated by Kambi. It will be relaunching state-by-state later this year. Expectations are that it will actually begin that process in Ohio with a late summer 2023 launch in time for the upcoming NFL season.

We expect to see the same large selection of markets and live betting options Bally Bet had previously offered. Also look for daily boosts, single game parlays, competitive odds and the chance to take advantage of the Bally Rewards program.

Out the Gate Sportsbook Ohio

A relative newcomer, Out the Gate has partnered with the SPIRE Institute to provide online and retail sports betting in Ohio.

The SPIRE Institute is a sports-centric high school and sports research facility located in Geneva, Ohio. The campus will provide the site for the retail sportsbook, while Out the Gate’s online sports betting site is expected to launch soon.

The company describes itself as a “multichannel gaming operator” offering not just sports betting but daily fantasy sports, online casino, poker and more. It has yet to launch an online sportsbook in the U.S., however, and its website offers no clues as yet to what the app’s features will include.

Underdog Sportsbook Ohio

The new Underdog Sportsbook is also expected to be among the sites launching in Ohio soon. Underdog has partnered with the Cincinnati Reds to offer online sports betting in the Buckeye State.

Known primarily as one of the “underdog” (pun intended) daily fantasy sports sites currently battling gamely against industry giants DraftKings and FanDuel, Underdog will be expanding to sports betting when it launches its Ohio sports betting app and site.

We are waiting to see what the Underdog Sportsbook app will look like and what features it will contain. Our experience with the Underdog DFS site has been positive, with its attractive interface and wide range of offerings indicating good things to come when the Underdog Sportsbook finally arrives.

WynnBET Sportsbook Ohio

Contrasting with the relatively new sites discussed above, WynnBET Sportsbook has a well-established reputation as a favorite app and site in several states.

In Ohio, WynnBET has a land-based partner in Jack Thistletown racino in Randall in order to provide online sports betting in the state. WynnBET has not applied for a retail license in Ohio.

Ohio will become the 10th state in which the online WynnBET Sportsbook operates. Though it will be entering a crowded market, WynnBET brings a lot of advantages that will make it competitive including an attractive and well-liked interface, great live betting options, highly rated customer service among other positives.

Top recommended new Ohio sportsbooks

As you try to sort through the many new Ohio sportsbooks and decide which one to use, there are several we can recommend. Indeed, our favorites primarily consist of apps we’ve become familiar with in other states.

Here are our top seven Ohio online sportsbooks we favor thanks to their generous welcome offers plus other features such as an attractive interface and intuitive design, plentiful betting options including parlays, futures, and live betting, competitive odds and more.

  • Caesars Sportsbook Ohio — Partnered with Eldorado Gaming Scioto Downs (online and retail) and the Cleveland Cavaliers (retail), Caesars lives up to its “King of Sportsbooks” claim with its top-notch design, terrific MLB odds, higher-than-average $100 limit on boosted odds, and more. Caesars’ handsome welcome offers also help vault it to the top of the list of new Ohio sportsbooks.
  • BetMGM Sportsbook OH — Partnered with MGM Northfield Park (online and retail) and the Cincinnati Reds (retail), BetMGM consistently offers great bonuses to go along with its BetMGM Rewards program and frequently better odds than other sites, with the site’s unique “Edit My Bet” feature another big plus. Be sure to check out BetMGM’s new parlay generator with which you can create your own interesting wagers.
  • BetRivers Sportsbook in Ohio — Partnered with Hollywood Gaming Dayton Raceway (online) and Hall of Fame Village (retail), BetRivers is a great app for sports bettors looking to learn more with its tips and advanced stats plus frequent promotions and special bets. BetRivers also often adds new promos such as “second-chance” bet bonuses.
  • Bet365 Sportsbook Ohio — Partnered with the Cleveland Guardians (online), Bet365 stands out with its wide selection of markets (including U.S. and international soccer) and unique “super boosts” of odds.
  • FanDuel Sportsbook — Partnered with Belterra Park (online and retail), FanDuel is a favorite online sportsbook in many states thanks to its famous same-game parlays, odds boosts, parlay insurance promos, and nifty live player stats for open prop bets. Every month FanDuel adds new promotions enabling users to extend their bankrolls.
  • Tipico Sportsbook OH — Partnered with the Columbus Crew (online and retail), Tipico is great for Ohio bettors looking for odds boosts in contests involving in-state teams, plus other daily promotions and specials involving the Bengals, Browns, and other Ohio teams. Users are advised whenever betting at Tipico to keep an eye out for new specials involving teams from the Buckeye State.
  • Betfred Sportsbook Ohio — Partnered with the Cincinnati Bengals (online), Betfred has a number of unique features including bad beat bonuses, “do-overs,” and prop protection while also offering daily odds boosts and the chance to participate in the Betfred Rewards program. Betfred also keeps Ohio users on their toes with new promos such as when it paid out bets early for the Bengals to win the Super Bowl last year even before they played (and lost) the AFC Championship.

New sportsbooks in Ohio means more competition and promos

Ohio’s sports betting regulations encourage competition among its many sportsbooks, which in turn means better deals and more options for sports bettors.

Unlike some states where only one or a few sportsbooks are allowed, Ohio has adopted an open market model, making it especially attractive to a large number of operators including all the best ones. Such a system not only helps create a lot of tax revenue for Ohio, but ensures customers will have lots of great welcome offers and ongoing bonuses and promotions as the sites compete for bettors’ business.

Advantages of trying out a new sports betting app in Ohio and having multiple accounts

When sorting through the many new betting apps in Ohio, we recommend you look closely at what the sites have to offer. Take full advantage of the fact that with so many apps vying for your business, you can afford to shop around and find the site that best suits your preferences with its available markets and bets, promotions, and other features.

While most sports bettors tend to have a favorite site or app, many sign up for multiple accounts. Here are a few reasons why having multiple accounts can be a benefit.

New welcome offers and bonuses

As you’ll soon discover when you begin to peruse the many online sportsbooks in Ohio, all of them have some type of welcome offer with which to try to influence your decision where to sign up.

These can include no deposit bonuses giving you cash or (more often) site credit with which to make your first wagers. Sites also often offer deposit match bonuses for first-time depositors. Online sportsbooks also have a variety of ways to provide first-time bettors second chances (so to speak) should they lose their very first wager on the site. This offer comes in different forms, but usually awards wager amount back (in site credit) if you lose that first bet, thereby giving you a chance to bet again.

Be sure to review the terms and conditions when evaluating these welcome offers. Sometimes you will have to satisfy wagering requirements in order to claim bonus funds or credits, or there may be other restrictions that can potentially make an offer less attractive.

Line shopping to find the best odds

Once you have signed up at multiple Ohio sportsbooks, you will be able to compare betting lines whenever you decide to place practically any wager. You can then choose the site offering the best odds in order to maximize your potential payout for a winning wager.

For example, say you wish to make a moneyline bet on the Cincinnati Bengals to beat the Cleveland Browns. You see BetMGM Sportsbook will take the bet at -140 (bet $140 to win $100), but over at FanDuel Sportsbook you can place the same bet at -130 (bet $130 to win $100).

It’s a small difference, but over many wagers such “line shopping” can be a great benefit. And in some cases you might find huge line discrepancies, say, when making futures bets, individual or team proposition bets, or even in live betting.

Different books highlight different sports and teams for bet boosts and regular promo

Another reason to have multiple accounts at Ohio sportsbooks is to be able take advantage of special exclusive offers centered upon particular in-state teams. Keep in mind also that many of the online sportsbooks have partnered with Ohio-based professional franchises, which can in turn lead to those sites offering odds boosts on their partnering team’s games.

When betting the NBA, see if Caesars is offering any promos involving the Cavaliers. For MLB games, check BetMGM (Reds) and Bet365 (Guardians). For the NFL, see if Betfred (Bengals) has any specials running. And for MLS matches, try Tipico (Columbus Crew).

That said, be aware that Ohio sportsbooks need not have partnerships with particular teams to offer such boosts or special plays on games involving Ohio teams. Shop around, and take advantage!

How to sign up for a new sports betting app in Ohio

Here are some more factors to consider as you contemplate creating a new Ohio sportsbook account.

How to choose a new sports betting app to try

We have a lot of experience rating and reviewing different sports betting apps. Some of the factors we strongly consider when evaluating a new sportsbook app include:

  • Welcome offers — Check to see what sort of bonuses the sites have for registering and/or depositing.
  • Site design and interface — Download the app and if possible look around and get a feel for how it is designed.
  • Quantity of markets, available bet types — See how many games, leagues, and sports the site takes wagers on, and look within each market at what kinds of bets are available (including live betting).
  • Quality of odds — You can take some time as well and compare lines at different sites to see which sites offer the best odds.
  • Available banking options — You should be able to see ahead of time what deposit and withdrawal methods the site supports.
  • Customer support — Read reviews to get a sense of how strong the site’s customer support is, or try out a site’s support yourself directly via live chat.

There is more to consider as well, and even after you begin using a site you’ll likely encounter other factors affecting how well you like the app. The good news in Ohio is you have plenty of sites to choose from as you weigh your preferences.

Information required on sign-up

When signing up for an account at new Ohio betting apps/sites, you will need to provide some personal information when first registering. Doing so helps the sites know you are who you say you are while also helping ensure the account you are creating remains secure.

Expect to provide some or all of the following information when you set up your Ohio sports betting account:

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Physical address
  • Phone number
  • Date of birth
  • Last four digits of social security number

You’ll likely also choose a username and password and perhaps set up some security questions. You’ll also likely have to agree to the site’s terms and conditions, including confirming (again) that you are at least 21 years old. You will not be required to deposit any funds when creating your account.

Be aware also that when registering an account you might be asked to provide a bonus code in order to receive any welcome offers.

Note that you don’t have to be an Ohio resident to create an account at an Ohio sportsbook. You can even typically perform banking operations from out of state as well. However, in order to place any sports bets you will need to be physically located in Ohio.

Is my money and information safe on Ohio sports betting apps?

Now that Ohio has legal sports betting, you can rest assured that all licensed and regulated Ohio sportsbooks are operating legally. Your personal information (including banking info, if you provide it) and your funds are 100% safe. The sites have to provide such assurances in order to keep their licenses to operate in the state.

New betting tools to ensure responsible gambling

It’s a great time for sports bettors in Ohio with all of the new apps and sites and even more coming soon. That said, it is important for anyone getting involved with betting on sports to be able to gamble responsibly.

That means keeping control of your wagering and setting limits when necessary both on the time you spend betting on sports and the amount of money you spend doing so. Always have a plan when gambling, and never gamble with money you cannot afford to lose.

Many Ohio sportsbooks have in-app tools to help you set up guardrails when betting. These tools can help keep sports betting fun and entertaining and prevent it from becoming a negative for you or those who care about you.

  • Deposit Limits — Many sites allow you to set daily, weekly, or monthly limits on how much you can deposit into your account.
  • Wagering Limits — Sites can also enable you to set limits on how much you can wager, thereby ensuring you never go over a certain maximum.
  • Time Limits — Some sites additionally can let you set up time limits on your sessions to prevent you from spending too much time on the site.
  • Self-Exclusion — Like casinos, sports betting apps often allow you to voluntarily self-exclude yourself from being able to place bets, either for a certain period or permanently.

Ohio gamblers have a number of in-state resources such as Ohio for Responsible Gambling and the Problem Gambling Network of Ohio where they learn more about responsible gambling and get help with problem gambling. Check out our responsible gambling page here at PlayOhio for more resources.
