Disclaimer: Betr Sportsbook is not yet live in the United States. This review is speculative based on Betr’s product announcement, and we will update it when the Betr sports betting app launches in Ohio.

Online sportsbooks are set to launch in Ohio on or around January 2023, and Betr Sportsbook could be one of them. Betr, formerly InstaBet, has applied for a sportsbook license through a partnership with Hall of Fame Village and could be ready in time for Ohio’s sports betting launch day.

Betr plans to offer a range of sports to bet on, with the main focus being on micro betting, a form of live betting where users can wager on everything that is happening in the game. The sportsbook was founded by Ohio native and YouTube/boxing star Jake Paul and Joey Levy, who founded SimpleBet.

This Betr review will take an in-depth look at all aspects of the platform, including bets, banking options, customer service and how the sportsbook compares to potential competitors in Ohio.

Claiming your Betr welcome bonus

Ohio is the first state in which Betr launched, and if you sign up before Jan. 14, 2023, you’ll be able to claim a great welcome bonus. And with their current welcome bonus in effect, if you sign up in time to be one of Betr’s first 10,000 users, you’ll receive $100 in bonus cash.

All you have to do is sign up for a Betr Sportsbook, verify your identity, and if you’re one of the first 10,000 users to register with Betr account you’ll receive $100 in bonus cash. You can then use this cash to place wagers on the Betr site.

Note that you cannot withdraw the bonus amount from your account, and that it will expire if not wagered within 30 days. The promotion ends on January 13, 2023, so don’t miss out.

We’ll be paying attention to what the Betr bonus is post-January 13. Here’s a look at the categories of welcome bonuses Betr could offer going forward:

  • Deposit match: This is where the sportsbook matches your initial deposit up to a certain threshold. For example, if you make your first deposit of $100, the book might provide an additional $100 in bonus funds that you can use to make bets. The BetRivers Sportsbook site, for example, will match 100% of your first deposit up to a total of $500.
  • First bet insurance: With this promotion, the sportsbook will provide a refund — typically as free bets or site credit — if your first bet loses. So, if you place $100 on your first wager and it loses, you could receive $100 in bonus bets. BetMGM online sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook online are among the books with promos similar to this, each offering refunds up to $1,000.

Will Betr Sportsbook be trustworthy?

Yes. For Betr to launch in Ohio, it will need to have a license and comply with state regulations. It has already started the process, as it has partnered with the pro football Hall of Fame Village in Canton. Betr also recently completed a successful Series A round of funding, raising over $50 million from investors around the world. Many of these investors are established names, including Elysium Venture Capital, Florida Funders, Travis Scott, Richard Sherman, and Ezekiel Elliott.

Ohio sports betting laws

You’ll need to be 21 or older to register and bet on the Betr Sportsbook app in Ohio. You also must be located in the state when placing any wagers. The sportsbook will confirm your age and identity when you sign up and will identify your location whenever you use the Betr gambling app or website. You won’t be able to wager if you’re outside of state lines.

Signing up at Betr Ohio

Signing up for a new Betr account should be easy, but you will need to supply some personal information, which is standard at online betting sites in Ohio:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Date of birth
  • Phone number
  • Last four digits of your Social Security number

If Betr online sportsbook in Ohio requires you to enter any sort of promo code, this is where you will enter that, as well.

Downloading the Betr sports betting app

Along with betting online through Betr’s website, the book should also have the option to wager through its app. Some such apps are available on just one platform, but most online sportsbooks offer their apps for both iOS and Android devices.

The best way to download the Betr Sportsbook Ohio app will be to head to the sportsbook website using your mobile device. Once there, you should find links to download the appropriate app for your device. The whole process shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes, max.

Betr promotions

Top sportsbooks will also offer users additional promotions throughout the year as the sports calendar shifts and evolves. One sportsbook that consistently features strong promotions is DraftKings. If Betr comes close to what the DraftKings app is offering, it will be a big win for Ohio sports bettors.

Since Betr Ohio sportsbook is focusing its platform on micro betting, odds boosts are likely to come into play. With odds boosts, the sportsbook improves the odds for a certain line above what it would normally offer, usually based on a trend or storyline. With micro betting, Betr may feature limited-time odds boosts that reward regular customers. It also might allow users to get percentage boosts that would allow them to choose where they want to apply the boost.

Micro sports betting also lends itself to a loyalty program. Since bettors may be placing a higher volume of bets while they watch games live, Betr could incorporate some sort of bonus program in which it offers consistent bettors rewards. DraftKings currently offers the Dynasty Program, in which users can earn Crowns for betting and spend them on DraftKings merchandise and betting credits.

Reasons to choose the Betr online sportsbook app

While we don’t have a Betr Sportsbook mobile app to review at this time, we know what makes a sportsbook great and which areas Betr may want to focus on while developing its platform.

As we mentioned, Betr is focusing its services on microbetting, which is a form of live betting. This means that you bet on the game while it is happening, instead of placing your bet prior to the game and letting it play out. This can be exciting, as you can bet on nearly any play you want. For example, if you’re watching a Cincinnati Bengals game, you could bet whether the next play will be a pass or a run, or if the drive will end in a score or a turnover. Betr will need to ensure its app is fast, smooth and easy to use, as live betting is contingent on that. If the sports lines take too long to load, it could keep you from betting as you want.

A sportsbook’s odds are also key. Since some sportsbooks don’t offer microbetting on every sport, Betr will be creating new odds that might not be available elsewhere.

Another feature to keep an eye on is the promotions a sportsbook offers. Betr has a chance to offer something distinct with microbetting. From odds boosts to parlay insurance to specialty lines, Betr should incorporate a variety of promotions for a betting style that differs from more traditional sportsbooks.

Things we’d change about the Betr sportsbook app

While most sportsbooks on the market currently offer some form of live betting, they are almost all flawed, and no one book has perfected the service yet. It is often plagued by slow update times, which leave bettors rushing to wager before it’s too late and the odds become invalid. Additionally, there’s the issue of lagging streams. This is more of an issue for younger bettors, which is the demographic Betr seems to be targeting.

With such a potentially high volume of microbets on the Betr platform, there is the possibility of issues and delays, especially initially. Therefore, customer support will be crucial, with options for reaching a representative quickly, such as an online live chat.

We’d also like to see Betr support a range of banking options. Since the product appears to be aimed at a younger audience, payment methods beyond the traditional options could be useful.

Betting markets at Betr

Betr Sportsbook Ohio is creating a sportsbook based around microbetting. The goal is to let Ohioans bet on every play in a game. Baseball fans could bet on the outcome of every pitch, while football fans could select who will catch the next pass, and basketball fans could make a pick for who will score the next basket. Microbetting aims to expand on the instant gratification of live betting, allowing you to bet on every moment of every game.

While this is Betr’s business plan currently, there is also no reason to believe it won’t offer traditional pregame bets, as well. We expect to see moneylines, spreads, over/unders, props, parlays, teasers, and futures on all the major pro and college sports in the US and abroad.

Betting on Ohio teams at Betr Sportsbook

The Betr sports betting app will offer odds on a variety of Ohio-based squads. Diehard Cincinnati Reds fans, for instance, can have something to root for even if the Reds are out of the pennant chase by early September. Suddenly, you’ll be able to bet on every pitch and every outcome or even parlay some picks into winning big money.

College football will be interesting for Betr, though. While you can place pregame bets on the Ohio State Buckeyes, for instance, it’s not yet clear whether live betting on college sports will be something that Ohio allows. Many states restrict the types of college bets that you can make. If Ohio bans live betting for NCAA games, it will be a big blow to Betr’s sports betting plans.

Banking at Betr

Betr online sportsbook has yet to announce which payment methods it will be accepting from bettors in Ohio. However, we can expect similar options to other sportsbooks, such as debit/credit cards and PayPal. We’ll update this section if Betr launches in Ohio.

Betr Sportsbook customer service

Assuming Betr falls in line with other sportsbooks, it will likely offer a detailed FAQ section on its website and app, as well as a customer support email address. If Betr really wants to excel in this facet of the industry, it will also include a live chat feature where users can receive one-on-one help from a customer service agent.

Responsible gaming at Betr Ohio

Betr Sportsbook will not be able to obtain a sports betting license in Ohio if it doesn’t provide responsible gambling tools and information. You can expect to find a section dedicated to responsible gambling on the Betr app and website in the future. It is likely to offer the option to set a variety of limits on your account, from how long you can be logged in to how much you can deposit and how much you can wager.

We also expect Betr to offer a self-exclusion option by contacting customer support. Self-exclusion periods typically range from 24 hours to one year or more. Once you start one, you can’t reverse it. Betr will then lock your account, other than to allow you to withdraw your funds.

Can I bet at Betr Sportsbook in person?

Betr does not currently offer a retail sportsbook in Ohio. We’ll have to see whether that changes once sports betting launches in full in the state.

How does Betr compare to other potential Ohio sportsbooks?

Betr could end up being a good option for those who like watching sports while betting on them. The sportsbook’s aim is to offer bets on every play from a game in real time, something no sportsbook has been able to master in our opinion.

It is difficult to fully review Betr without a live product to explore, but if it is able to deliver on its promises, it could end up as a fun option for Ohio bettors. Microbetting may change the sports betting landscape as we know it, and we are excited to see what Betr has to offer.
